Depuis sa création en 1958, La Défense n'a cessé d'évoluer, pour devenir le quartier d'affaires le plus important d'Europe. C'est un véritable joyau, tant d'un point de vue financier qu'architectural. Construit dans le prolongement de l'axe tracé par l'Avenue des Champs Élysées, il compte un nombre impressionnant de bâtiments, tous plus aboutis les uns que les autres.
Tout de verre vêtus, ils semblent défier le temps qui passe, du haut de leur taille et de leurs formes hors normes, à la limite entre le génie et la folie humaine. De parfaits symboles de puissance, que j'ai voulu mettre en valeur.
En conjonction avec des cadrages spécifiques, le noir et blanc et la pose longue étaient de rigueur pour cette étude, donnant aux gratte ciel cet aspect surréaliste, froid et indestructible.
Au delà de la simple photographie d'architecture, cette série se veut une allégorie de ma vision du monde qui m'entoure: émerveillée autant que pessimiste. Émerveillée par les prouesses que l'Homme peut accomplir, pessimiste à cause de cette incessante course à la puissance à laquelle il se livre.
Je me suis efforcé de donner à l'observateur les moyens de partager cette vision, de lui permettre de s'évader de la réalité, ainsi que de l'inciter à remettre en question les aspects selon moi négatifs de notre société moderne.
Peut être une bonne façon de commencer l'année 2009 que je vous souhaite excellente.

Since it was created in 1958, La Defense has never stopped to grow, to become the most important business area in Europe. It's a real jewel, from both financial and architectural points of views. Built in the prolongation of the axis given by the Champs Elysées Avenue, it consists of many impressive towers, each one more sophisticated than the other.
All dressed of glass, they seem to defy the time passing by, with their tall heights and strange shapes, on the limit between genius and human craziness. Perfects symbols of power, that I wanted to highlight.
Used in conjunction with special framings, black & white and long exposure were necessary for this study, giving to the skyscrapers this surreal, cold and unbreakable appearance.
Beyond of being simple architecture photography, this series is also an allegory of my vision of the world surrounding me: amazed and pessimistic. Amazed by all the prowesses that Mankind is able to achieve, and pessimistic because of Its endless pursuit of power.
I managed to give the observer the way to share this vision, to permit him to escape from reality, and to incite him to wonder about all the negative aspects of our modern society.
Maybe a good way to begin the year 2009 I wish you excellent.
